MANUALS OF VALVE

MANUAL OF BUTTERFLY VALVES

1. Introduction

Scope

This manual provides guidelines for the installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, and warranty coverage of Butterfly Valves manufactured and supplied by GM Dalui & Sons.

Applications

Butterfly Valves are widely used for flow isolation and regulation in:

  • Water Distribution Networks
  • Water Treatment Plants
  • Sewage Treatment Plants
  • Irrigation Systems
  • Fire Protection Systems
  • HVAC Systems
  • Industrial Process Pipelines
  • Power Plants
  • Chemical and Utility Services

The valves are designed for reliable performance under varying pressure and flow conditions.

2. Installation Guidelines

Pre-Installation Inspection

  • Verify valve size, pressure rating, and material compatibility.
  • Inspect the valve for transportation damage.
  • Remove all protective covers and packaging materials.
  • Ensure pipeline is free from debris, welding slag, sand, and foreign materials.

Piping Requirements

  • Install valve in clean and properly aligned pipelines.
  • Provide adequate support for large diameter valves.
  • Avoid excessive pipe stresses on valve body.
  • Ensure sufficient clearance for disc rotation.

Valve Orientation

Recommended positions:

  • Horizontal pipeline with shaft in horizontal position.
  • Vertical installation permitted where system design requires.
  • Avoid installing with disc partially open during commissioning.

Flange Bolting

  • Use appropriate gasket material.
  • Tighten flange bolts in cross-pattern sequence.
  • Apply uniform torque to prevent leakage.
  • Avoid overtightening which may deform valve seats.

3. Operation Instructions

Opening Procedure

  1. 1Ensure system pressure is within valve rating.
  2. 2Operate handwheel, gearbox, actuator, or lever smoothly.
  3. 3Open valve gradually to prevent pressure shock.
  4. 4Verify full disc opening position.

Closing Procedure

  1. 1Close valve slowly.
  2. 2Avoid sudden closure to minimize water hammer.
  3. 3Confirm valve reaches full closed position.
  4. 4Do not apply excessive operating force.

Operational Precautions

  • Never use valve beyond rated pressure and temperature.
  • Do not use valve as pipeline support.
  • Avoid operation under severe vibration conditions.
  • Do not modify valve components without authorization.

4. Maintenance Schedule

Monthly Inspection

  • Check for external leakage.
  • Inspect operating mechanism.
  • Verify valve opening and closing operation.
  • Check fasteners and mounting hardware.

Quarterly Inspection

  • Inspect seat condition.
  • Verify actuator alignment.
  • Lubricate moving components where applicable.
  • Check stem sealing arrangement.

Annual Inspection

  • Complete internal inspection.
  • Examine disc wear and corrosion.
  • Inspect shaft, bearings, and bushings.
  • Replace worn seals if required.
  • Perform functional pressure testing.

Recommended Spare Parts

  • Rubber Seat
  • O-Rings
  • Stem Seals
  • Bearings
  • Fasteners
  • Gearbox Components
